living the life. enjoying the journey

So I have been trying very hard to keep my mind off of referrals starting up again in 2 weeks but have been very, very unsuccessful. I have been literally making myself sick from all the anticipation. So... diverted my attention to a more superficial pursuit... a new haircut. (Yes, I know it seems shallow but I am up for anything to help me pass the time.) I have a personal rule (you may have read in a previous post) that requires me to cut my hair if I have donned a ponytail for longer than 3 months. My recent passport picture reminded me of a Jewish rabbi with my pair of corkscrew curls falling from my ponytail. (Yeah I know I should have shaved for this picture but I have sensitive skin and haven't purchased the badger hair lathering brush Martha Stewart said was necessary for a good shave)
While Rabbi are well respected men...this hairstyle is not the most flattering for a young mommy. So my search began for a new hairstyle. After much debate I decided to print some pictures off of Katie Holmes new haircut because it looked easy to care for and down to earth.

So, I finally convinced myself to shell out the cash for a haircut (a luxury I only lavish in once or twice a year). I avoided Great Clips since last experience required emergency hair repair at work in the YMCA closet (thank you Misty). A friend recommended Famous Hair so I rushed there and got in the door right before they closed. I was thankful to get a younger girl who had nice hair (you know how scary it is to get the crazy lady with the 80's style). She looked at the picture for a while and got started. She made a frowzy face with each clip but said my hair was easy to cut.... thanks, I guess. Anyway, she finished cutting and it looked decent but you can never tell great hair from a disaster until it dries. I accepted her offer to style it but was horrified at the result!!!! She asked if I liked it and all I could muster was "I look like a muffin." She reminded me that if I didn't like it I could come back tomorrow with my receipt to "fix" it. I used all of my will power not to melt there in the store and quickly ran to my car to cry. I did not want anyone to see me like that so I searched for a hat but all I could find to cover the mess was well....a pull up diaper. Yes, my hair was so bad that I would prefer people to see me wearing a diaper on my head than think that I chose such a bad haircut.
(note this picture is based on true events but has been recreated for your viewing pleasure(uncontrollable tears and heaving sobs have been omitted))

After much crying I finally dragged myself into the house to see if there was any way to rectify the atrocity that sat upon my head (under the diaper that is). It took about 20 minutes but I finally found an acceptable style until it grows out.
And yes, I can now say that a bad hair cut is a great diversion for a mom waiting for her referral...but I wouldn't recommend it for the faint at heart.

I think it is very cute. The pull-up...hilarious, but I know you probably didn't think so. I have had a couple of those tear filled runs to the car myself. I think your hair looks really cute though. Amy

Maybe if you try adding the jumbo sunglasses Katie Holmes is wearing, you might look just like her.

    Or, perhaps a $400 shirt? ;)
