living the life. enjoying the journey

Day 12 Tuesday
Sifan slept in until 6:30 this morning!!! She was so tired from being out all night. I called a driver for the morning so I didn’t have to take the minibus. I wanted to make sure to get to the Hilton to change our flight and to clinic as early as possible to get the chest x-ray done asap. The line at ET airlines was short this time and we were so happy to hear that we got on the Friday flight…but the noon flight from DC to Indy was full….so we would arrive on Friday at 8 am and not be able to fly to Indy until 10:30pm…yuck. I asked to be put on the waiting list for the earlier flight. (later called Torrey to have him call the airline a few times a day to get us on the earlier flight.)
Next we rushed to Chicho clinic to get the official TB results. When we arrived Nuni went to business and I was sat with the doctor to shoot the breeze apparently. He said that Nuni kept calling to get the results…he seemed annoyed. He then told me that he would not have the results from the IOM until 3 that afternoon……oy! I said the IOM told me that they would send it yesterday afternoon. He said he didn’t’ even know if she needed a chest x-ray and that they only do them if the result is 5mm or more…I told him that I watched him measure 12-13mm so she needed one and I need the chest x-ray results by Thursday at 12 for my embassy appointment. I asked him how long it would take to get the chest x-ray results and he said 2-3 days......see panic in my eyes……..I told him I had already been here too long and already missed an embassy appointment so I needed them by Thursday at 12….he said he can see what he can do……he heads back to the back room…..where Nuni is and comes back 15 minutes later with the results….then he writes a referral for the chest x-ray. We jump in the car and take the 5 minute ride to the clinic for the chest x-ray. Unfortunately nobody at the chest x-ray clinic speaks English so I couldn’t confirm anything myself or ask clarification questions. Outside of the x-ray room- literally outside in the open air is a line that held films for previous x-rays. After a few minutes a woman came out of the room and asked for Sifan’s papers. We waited another 20 minutes then a man walked out of the room. He gave me a funny look and I said chest x-ray for Sifan and he said paper, and I said the woman already took them. He went back in the room and 10 minutes later called us in. The room was dark and kind of “Lost” or “Alias” creepy. Nuni got Sifan ready while I stayed out of the way….she was fussy at me for not buying her earrings at the Hilton still (see a spoiled little girl trend here?). After the x-rays were complete the doctor told Nuni to wait and we would get the results in a few minutes. After 20 minutes the man told Nuni that he would not give us the result and would send it to the embassy. So we came home. Tomorrow I will call the embassy to make sure they received the chest x-ray and to confirm that I have an appointment.
After lunch Sifan and I enjoyed a nice nap on the couch and it rained on and off throughout the afternoon and evening.
We finally found a mutually enjoyable game. Meg left us some big legos to play with here at the guest house and to donate after we leave. We both enjoy building together. It has been the first thing I have been able to get her to focus on. We tried other games and such but she repeatedly laughs and throws herself backward for no reason and it gets frustrating. There isn’t a lot to do here so we get bored easily but are trying to keep busy. Abinish, Atogu, and Beti have been great to let her “help” here and there. She loves to help at the coffee ceremony and they listen to her tell them about her picture book for the 200th time with smiles on their faces. One day when I was still trying to figure out what to do to get us home Beti was teaching Sifan to draw flowers with her crayons. The girls have been a lifesaver in this extra long unexpected delay in coming home.
Yesterday I had to give up my underwear to be washed….how humiliating….They didn’t come back with the rest of the clothes yesterday and I was holding off on asking them if my granny panties got mixed in with someone else’s laundry. This afternoon I saw them laying on my bed!! YEAH!!!
